Moved In! (kind of...)

Best day ever. Its sunny, warm and beautiful outside! Also, we officially live IN THE CITY! We moved what we could this morning to our Manhattan Apt. For this week we will be living off of two towels, an air mattress (we have yet to purchase) and 3 sets of clothing. We will have to be creative this week, but it will definitely be worth it :) Walking into our new apartment this morning was surreal. The entire way there all Jason and I could do was smile. I for one, could finally see the reason behind the heartbreak of moving across the country, away from my family and friends. I have missed them dearly these past few months and it was nice today to actually feel like I BELONG to New York City. I have made my sacrifices for this city, and she is now starting to pay me back. The upstairs seems smaller than I remembered, but the downstairs seems much bigger than I remember... Im so excited to do some painting and decorating. I know what I want for my living room and Im still thinking about the bedroom. I know for certain that I want this place to be extremely relaxing and beautiful to look at. It must be my little escape when things are going crazy. Both Jason and I are so excited to have family and friends visit! The weekend after this upcoming one we will be hosting Jason's younger brother who just returned to Iraq. We plan on walking along the entire length of broadway (if the weather permits). I cant wait! I have a feeling I will love doing that.. Breakfast downtown, lunch mid town and dinner on the Upper East Side :)

I adore this furniture. The overall design is too boring for my tastes but that furniture is pretty much EXACTLY what Im looking for....

I love the green plant in the background... I would probably add splashier pillows, but I like the overall feel...

I looooooooove this room... It looks so comfy and bright... I could definitely relax in a room like this!

I love how crisp and clean this space is, the light chocolate warms it up as well....

Ive been LAZY with this Blog!

Okay, so I realize its been about a decade since I have updated this blog. Sorry! Many exciting things have happened since my last update. We found and signed a lease to the most perfect apartment EVER. Its incredible, amazing and unbelievable. It has two stories, two bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, a washer/dryer and a dishwasher! I wont have to wash dishes anymore! WOOO HOOO!. We will move in somewhere between February 1st and 3rd. I honestly was so afraid that we would not get this apartment, not that I had any reason to be afraid, but things like this apartment just DONT happen. Like my sister told me, "OMG, you guys are like "Friends!" You got the NYC apartment that isnt supposed to exist!" I dont know HOW we got this lucky... lol So now expect many decorating ideas... I might start posting and catologing pictures and photos that inspire me.... why not!? I have a general idea of what I want... clean, non cluttered...minimal... you get the idea. This place is going to take us a while to decorate, seeing as its about 3 times as large as we were initially expecting, but Im not one to complain :) Also, Jason was offered an AMAZING job, so much better than the first one he was offered. We are glad that he held out. It will definitely pay off big time in the long run. He loves the people and hes incredibly excited to be working with firms that have been around for a few centuries :) Im still really enjoying work, it continues to be extremely challenging. It seems that I find out about a new plan they have every single day... I didnt know one company could have so many! But it keeps me on my toes, so thats good. Just last weekend we saw my sister, who came for the inauguration. It was awesome to see her and her friend, it made me realize just how much I miss my entire family. I hope someone comes to visit me again soon! Any volunteers? youll have your own room!

Cant wait to get my library card!

The first thing Im going to do as soon as I get my first paycheck is march that sucker right over to the library and sign up for a card. The New York City Library Card is better than gold in my eyes and I cant wait to get my hands on one! The first day we were in the city I went in there hoping that a PO Box in the city would be sufficient... nope.. Apparently I gotta pay be paying taxes to NYC, whether thru living there or working there... okay okay it makes sense I guess! but still... my first book will be The Handmaids Tale.

Work is still going so well that I can hardly even believe it. The Director is letting me basically take the reigns on the 401k plan of the firm (which is so much more straight forward than dealing with 100+ different and unique 401k Plans) and Im also learning a ton about FSA's, Health Plan Transfers (for Lawyers that go to work in one of the overseas offices) and of course anything else having to do with insurance. The people are still super nice and I have still somehow miraculously managed to stay away from all the sweets that the cafeteria taunts me with.

Tomorrow I work and then Jason is picking me up so that we can go to DC to visit his family. It will be a nice little mini vacation... it will be nice to have something that is legitimately a vacation and not just straight up "unemployment" lol. Okay, I need a cup of chamomile my book and the bed. GOOD NIGHT!

Officially Employed!

Well kids, It has finally happened! Im actually employed :) It is a temporary position but at this point I will take just about anything. I will start this Thursday and it should last about 3 months or so (I will be filling in for a woman on maternity leave). I will be working for a very prestigous law firm downtown Manhattan in their benefits department. This will be quite different than BAC, most of the 401K questions will get routed to Fidelity, the record-keeper. The majority of the work will be related to healthcare, flexible spending (which they do in-house), cobra, etc... so it will be a completely new experience! Im nervous but very excited as well.
Standing in the lobby yesterday waiting for the interview, I had a very good feeling. I really liked the building (its HUGE and this lawfirm has its own line for guests... you need a pass to get into any of the offices...) It also has its own brooks brothers and a starbucks! what else could a girl want? I told myself yesterday that if I could nail this interview than I could really feel like I have made it... I can say that in this horrible economy, right before the holidays, I was able to land myself a job! I really had one of those chick-lit moments yesterday, I loved it. lol
So now I just need to prepare myself for Thursday, my first day. Amazingly its a pretty relaxed office, but I still want to step it up. I can't take anything for granted in this city and I just really feel like I need to prove myself. In three months I will be doing this all over again, but Im developing an exceptional talent in the arts of "interviewing". Besides the designer interview I had when we first got here, this was my first "face to face" interview with an employer (I have had a million interiews with recruiters though... and actually need to cancel three that I have scheduled on Thursday! Ack!) and I NAILED it. Im very proud of myself.. and its a real confidence booster... Hopefully I will be this lucky in three months! So here's to Thursday and here's to a paycheck! hehe
